Review: Recently-Watched Series

Hello people, How are you? Firstly, I would like to say thank you to everyone that has supported my blog since the beginning and to the new followers, as well.

I had almost a month of holidays from university, so I have had a lot of leisure time lately. Most of this time was spent reading and watching those series that were on my list of to-watch and to-read, so I did take advantage of my time . . . almost. The only thing that I do regret is that I did not spend the time that I wanted to spend in my blog, such as writing blog posts more frequently, for instance. So, I’m sorry for that.

Having said that, here they are:

  • Divorce: This HBO series is amazing! Such a good performance by Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church. The story is full of drama and comedy as well. A very good one.

Sarah Jessica Parker returns to HBO in the new comedy series, Divorce. Parker stars as Frances, a woman who suddenly begins to reassess her life and her marriage, and finds that making a clean break and a fresh start is harder than she thought.

  • Big little lies: This one is a 10 of 10. I read the book a few weeks ago and I can say that the limited TV series makes an excellent job. Despite the many extra things and details added to the show, It is totally worth-watching. From the incredible soundtrack to the amazing performances by these great actresses (Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley). There’s a mistery murder the day of the Trivia night at the public school, that leads to confussion and doubt of who can be the murderer. I highly recommend both the book and and limited series. One of my favourite so far.

In the tranquil seaside town of Monterey, California, nothing is quite as it seems. Doting moms, successful husbands, adorable children, beautiful homes: What lies will be told to keep their perfect worlds from unraveling?

Told through the eyes of three mothers – Madeline, Celeste and Jane – Big Little Lies paints a picture of a town fueled by rumors and divided into the haves and have-nots, exposing the conflicts, secrets and betrayals that compromise relationships between husbands and wives, parents and children, and friends and neighbors.

  • Stranger Things: Also a good one. I wanted to give it a try because I have heard many positive comments about it. I know that this series is a bit old since first season was published last year and season 2 is scheduled for this autumn. I bet that most of you must have already watched it. In my opinion, the series is very good and creative; I also liked its vintage look. I cannot wait for season two!

When a young boy disappears, his mother, a police chief, and his friends must confront terrifying forces in order to get him back.

Here is the trailer of season Two:

  • 13 Reasons Why: Here we are . . . The popular these days. One day, I decided to give it a try as everyone was talking about it. I, too, bet that most of you must have watched it already. It is a very sad story indeed. A girl, tired of being bullied, harassed and many other things (Not Spoilers given; I promise), decides to commit suicide. Nevertheless, she left behind 13 tapes with 13 reasons why she decided to do so. In my opinion, It was an excellent series which shows the problems, nowadays, teenagers live with at schools. However, I have seen negative comments about it as well. By the way, after finishing watching the series, I decided to read the book immediately since I was moved by the series. A ten of ten.

13-Reasons-Why

Follows teenager Clay Jensen, in his quest to uncover the story behind his classmate and crush, Hannah, and her decision to end her life.

  • A Series of Unfortunate Events: A very good story; I liked it. I wanted to watch this series because, as I said in my other post, I want to read this series of 13 books (I haven’t yet) because they look interesting. The story is very funny and creative; the first season contains the first 4 books, so there are, at least, 2 seasons left. Nevertheless, I did not feel connected with it until episode 3 or 4; It did not convince me at first.

After the loss of their parents in a mysterious fire, the three Baudelaire children face trials and tribulations attempting to uncover dark family secrets.

  • Riverdale: I love this series, It is very entertaining and interesting. First season hasn’t finished yet, so I recommend you to watch it until its end. Another unknown-murderer story, full of drama, comedy and thriller. I Highly recommended.

riverdale

A subversive take on Archie and his friends, exploring small town life, the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade.

Have you watched one of these series?
What do you think about them?
Do you recommend me another one?

I loved a series of unfortunate events. I think the actress for aunt josephine was a bit weak, but on the whole i liked episode 3 and 4. I thought 5 &6 were a little dissapointing, but I am really looking forward to when they do books 5 and 6.

  2. I really enjoyed this post! I personally LOVED “Thirteen Reasons Why.” I just finished the series myself, about a week ago. I’m still suffering from the emotional withdrawal from the show! I like how you talked about a variety of shows. Well done, friend. 🙂

    1. I literally watched 13 Reasons Why 3 times in a row. I gave myself a few days of a break in between because of my emotional attachment to it. I do not think I’ve ever cried so much…I did NOT want it to be over! It was very relatable. Great production as well…I definitely need to read the book.

  3. Out of the ones you watched saw Stanger Things and A Series of Unfortunate Events. I really enjoyed both of them. I do want to give 13 Reasons Why a try, for the reasons you just pointed out, but I’m stuck watching Shameless now, so I’ll check it out next.

  4. These are some good shows. I’ve watched up to four episodes of Stranger Things but I need to continue. My sister, who recommended that show, is on my back to see Thirteen Reasons Why and Riverdale.

I’ll try to give them a try. But I have my own grocery list of shows to keep up with! Have you heard of Sens8? It’s on Netflix, season two was just released.

  5. Thirteen Reasons why was such a moving show. I am actually a teenager, so it was very relatable and helped me face my emotions. I am guessing you are an adult, and it makes me extremely glad that you took the time to read the book & watch the series. Many adults did not find the show interesting enough to finish it and were not as understanding as you were. It is important individuals of all ages recognize the message this story conveys due to the reality of it. Also, the second season is on its way if you haven’t heard! I am beyond excited to see what they decide to do with it since there were several unanswered questions.

Thank you for liking my first ever blog post by the way!

    1. You’re welcome! I couldn’t agree more. The show was absolutely great and well-done. I’m looking forward to watching season two.

      PS, I think that I’m still a teenager; I’m 18 years old.

Thank you for your comment!! Regards.

  6. Awesome post!! My husband & I watched the first season of Divorce. It is really funny & sad in a way, myself & my husband speculate that they will at some point get back together, but I suppose we shall see.

I totally want to see the Lemony Snickets A Series of Unfortunate Accidents. I watched the movies some years back & seemed interested to see how the series is compared to the movie. The only thing, I’ve never read the books.

I am meaning to start Big Little Lies (my mum is currently watching it and she wont shut up about it, so I guess reading this is a sign that I need to start watching it haha). Awww
You are such a teenager. LOL.
All of these shows have a CW vibe
    But
I really liked A Series of Unfortunate Events.I t is goofy and funny. Count Olaf makes that show! 13 Reasons is like a mainstay for summer ’17, I do not know a teen who has not watched it and identified with it.

I would recommend Jessica Jones season 1 from 2 yrs a go, that has the best villain I have seen in a while and
Atlanta/Insecure for the comedy and the culture and
The Night Of if you are into dark drama.
